Fungal Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology
Our research involves the study the regulation of the expression of the genome, ultimately to gain an understanding of the molecular mechanisms of differential gene expression.
Fundamental studies into the ways in which genes are turned on and off in simple and genetically amenable fungi not only contribute to a basic understanding of gene expression, but can have applications in industrial microbiology, and in the understanding of plant/pathogen interactions. They also lay essential groundwork towards an understanding of normal and abnormal differentiation and development in other eukaryotic organisms including humans.
Our work addresses fundamental questions in gene regulation as well as applied aspects of fungal biotechnology.
